Hip Joint Flashcards
What connection does the hip joint form?
Connection between the lower limb and pelvic girdle
What type of joint is the hip joint?
Strong, stable multiaxial bal and socket synovial joint
What increases the depth of the acetabulum?
Acetabular labrum and transverse acetabular ligament
Which ligament reinforces the hip joint anteriorly and superiorly?
Iliofemoral ligament
Where does the iliofemoral ligament attach?
Proximally, anterior inferior iliac spine and acetabular rim and distally, to intertrochanteric line
What movement does the iliofemoral ligament limit?
Hyperextension of the hip joint during standing
Which ligament reinforces the hip joint anteriorly and inferiorly?
Pubofemoral ligament
Where does the pubofemoral ligament arise from?
Obturator crest of pubic bone and passes to merge with fibrous layer of joint capsule
What movement does the pubofemoral ligament limit?
Excessive abduction of the hip joint
Which ligament reinforces the hip joint posteriorly?
The weak ischiofemoral ligament
Where does the ischiofemoral ligament arise from?
Ischial part of acetabular rim and spirals to neck of femur
What movements occur at the hip joint?
Flexion/extension, abduction/adduction, medial/lateral rotation, and circumduction
What arteries supply the hip joint?
Medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries and artery to head of femur
What is the nerve supply of the hip joint?
Femoral nerve, obturator nerve, superior gluteal nerve, nerve to quadratus femoris
