Measures of Dispersion Flashcards
1
Q
Range
A
Simple calculation of spread of values. Worked out by taking the lowest value from highest and adding 1. This a mathematical correction allowing for a margin of error. Only takes into account most extreme values so unrepresentative of whole data.
2
Q
Standard Deviation
A
Single value that tell us how far scores deviate from mean. Larger the value the more deviation. This suggests not all affected by IV the same. Precise measure of dispersion. Can be distorted by single extreme value as uses all values.
