informed consent, deception, protection from harm, confidentiality, right to withdraw, and debrief
Informed consent
They should know what they are going to do. Need to be aware of aims, procedure and rights. Needed from competent of age pp.
Deal with Informed consent
Pps issued with letter of consent. Other types include presumptive consent, prior general consent, and retrospective consent
Depection
Deliberately misleading or withholding information. Can’t give informed consent if deceived.
Deal with deception
End should be given full debrief and made aware of true aim. Aware right to withdraw data
Protection from harm
Should not be placed at any more risk than in daily lives.
Deal with protection from harm
Given a full debrief and made aware behaviour normal . If been subject to stress or embarrassment should be provided with counselling.
Confidentiality
Pps have right to control information and refers to right, ensured by law.
Deal with confidentiality
Research refers to pps as number or initials and record no personal data. Reminded data protected.
Right to withdraw
Right to withdraw at any time even after debriefing.
Debrief
Pps returned to same psychological state before experiment so true aim outlined and support offered.
