Maxilla Flashcards
Where is the aveolar process
This is the horizontal portion which holds up the tooth roots
What are the Alveoli
These are where the tooth roots sit and these can be resorbed following tooth loss
Where is the canine eminence
This is the bony eminence over the maxillary canine root on the facial surface
Where is the zygomatic process
This forms the side of the cheek
Where is the infraorbital foramen
This is located below the inferior orbital rim on the facial surface
Where is the canine fossa
This is the hollow surface below the infraorbital foramen where all processes come together
Where is the anterior nasal spine
This is the thin projection of bone on the midline at the inferior margin of the nasal aperture
Where is the infraorbital sulcus
This is on the posterior half of the orbital floor
Where is the maxillary sinus
This is the large void in the body of the maxilla, superior to the alveolar process and inferior to the orbital floor
Where is the frontal process
Bridge of bone which rises up to connect with the frontals, nasals, lacrimal and ethmoid
Where is the anterior lacrimal crest
This is the vertical crest located on the lateral aspect of the frontal process of the maxilla
Where is the palatine process
This forms the anterior two thirds of the hard palate and floor of the nasal cavity
Where is the incisive foramen
This perforates the anterior hard palate of the midline
Where is the incisive canal
This is the opening via the incisive foramen
Where is the premaxillary suture
Seen in the wall of the incisive canal and on the adjacent palatal surface
Where is the greater palatine groove
This is at the rear of the hard palate and marks the junction of the palatine and alveolar process
Where is the maxillary tuber
This is the surface at the posterior end of the alveolar process
Where is the nasoalveolar clivus
This is the surface between the canine emience, the base of the piriform aperture and the alveolar margin
How would you side a maxilla
For the broken frontal process the thinner edge is anterior and medial with the anterior lacrimal crest being lateral. For any segment with the alveolar bone preserved, can use tooth roots or sockets
