Frontal Bone Flashcards
Where is the squamous part of the frontal bone
This is the big flat part across the top
Where are the orbital parts
These are the orbital roofs left and right
Where is the nasal part
Top of where the nasal bone would be
Where is the ethnoid notch
seen in the inferior view this is the gap between the orbits
Where are the roofs of the ethnoid air cells
In the inferior view these are holesc along the ethnoid notch
Where is the temporal line
The raised lines from the orbit running backwards
Where is Gabella
The eyebrow bump - ridge which can be used for sexing
Where is the parietal margin
Where the coronal suture would be
Where is the sphenoid margin
Back of the orbits where the sphenoid bone would fuse
Where is the zygomatic process of the frontal
Edges of the orbital ridge
Where is the frontal crest
In the posterior view back of the nasal part
Where is the groove for the superior sagittal crest
On the posterior view it’s the line down the middle
Where are the supraorbital margin
These are the upper orbital edges
Where is the supraorbital notch
Found in the supraorbital margin
Where is the metopic suture (If there is one)
Down the middle of the frontal bone
Where are the meningeal grooves
Present on both sides on the endocranial surface - veins
Where is the foramen cecum
This is a small foramen found at the base of the frontal crest
Where are the Arachnoid foveae
Apparent near the coronal suture along the endocranial midline
Where are the orbital plates
Back/top of the orbits
Where are the lacrimal fossae (If there are any)
These are found on the lateral inferior parts of the orbital surfaces
Where are the frontal sinuses
Anterior to the ethmoid notch
How would you side a frontal bone
If fragmented holding it up to your head is sometimes best. If in once piece it’s in the centre
