Q

Where is the mandible body or corpus

A

This is the thick bony part of the mandible which anchors the teeth - Can be used for sexing

Where is the external oblique line

A

This is a weak eminence that passes from the root of the ramus to the rear of the mental foramen

Q

Where is the mylohyoid line

A

This crosses the medial surface of the corpus, beginning near the alveolar margin running anteroinferiorly

16
Q

Where is the condylar neck

A

This is just under the condyle

17
Q

Where is the coronoid process

A

This is the thin triangular protuberance at the top of the ramus, anterior to the condyle - can be used for sexing

18
Q

Where is the mandibular notch

A

This is the notch between the condyle and the coronoid process

19
Q

Where is the gonial angle

A

This is the rounded posterior angle of the mandible - The flaring can be used for sexing

20
Q

Where is the masseteric tuberosity

A

This is above the gonial angle - on the ramus

21
Q

Where is the masseteric fossa

A

This is the hollowing on the lateral surface of the gonial angle

22
Q

Where is the endocoronoid ridge

A

This is the vertical ridge extending inferiorly from the coronoid tip of the inner aspect of the ramus

23
Q

Where is the mandibular foramen

A

This is on the medial surface of the ramus this becomes the mandibular canal

24
Q

Where is the lingula

A

This is the sharp projection at the edge of the mandibular foramen - tongue

25
Q

Where is the mylohyoid groove

A

This runs down from mandibular foramen on the medial surface of the ramus

26
Q

Where are the pterygoid tuberosities

A

These are on the medial surface of the gonial angle

26
Q

What can cause sexing the mandible hard

A

Tooth loss - causes body height loss, ramus tilts and becomes narrow

26
Q

How would you side a mandible

A

The incisors are anterior and nearer to the midline than the molars, the ramus is posterior.
For isolated condyles the the border of the mandibular notch is lateral
For isolated coronoids the notch is posterior, the tip superior and the endocoronoid ridge is medial
For isolated gonial angles the tuberosities are medial
