What is maternal mortality?
Death of a woman while pregnant or within 48 hours of termination of pregnancy. (Not from incidental or accidental causes)
What is maternal morbidity?
Severe health complications occurring in pregnancy and delivery NOT resulting in death.
What is maternal mortality ratio?
Number of maternal deaths during given time period per 100,000 live births.
It is also known as obstetric risk. So live babies but dead mothers in a time period, per 100,000.
What is maternal mortality rate?
Number of maternal deaths in given time period per 100,000 women of reproductive age.
So live mothers per potential mothers in a time period, per 100,000.

What is the recommended antenatal care?
4 antenatal visits
Weight BP
Proteinuria
Folic acid
What is a stillbirth?
Birth of a dead baby after 18-20 weeks of gestation or weighing more than 500 g
What is early neonatal death?
Death of a baby within first week of life
What is late neonatal death?
Death of a baby within first 28 days of life
What is infant mortality?
Death of a baby within first year of life
What is child mortality?
Death of a baby within five years of life
What is perinantal mortality?
Stillbirth and neonatal mortality
How do you prevent neonatal mortality from the moment the baby is born?
Check for breathing
Keep baby warm
Wash hands before handling
Start exclusive breast feeding
