Endometrial Cancer Flashcards
How do you find out histological type, grade and lymphovascular space invasion?
Through microscopy
How do you find out stage?
Through surgery or MRI
What is Type 1 endometrial cancer? Epidemiology and cause?
Endometriod carcinoma
It’s the commonest, caused by unopposed estrogen.
What is the precursor for Type 1 endometrial cancer?
Hyperplasia with atypia
What is Type 2 endometrial cancer? Epidemiology and prognosis?
Uterine serous and clear cell carcinoma
Typically more for older women, high grade, more aggressive, worse prognosis.
What is the precursor for Type 2 endometrial cancer?
Serous intraepithelial carcinoma
What are the stages for endometrial cancer?
1A, 1B
2
3A, 3B
4
What is stage 1A?
Inner half thickness of the myometrium
What is stage 1B?
Outer half thickness of the myometrium
What is stage 2?
Invasion of cervix
What is stage 3A?
Invasion of serosa/adnexes
What is stage 3B?
Pelvic or para-aortic nodes (forgot about these when trying to memorise)
What is stage 4?
Distant metastases, spread to the peritoneal organs/lymph nodes
What is the treatment for early stage disease?
Surgical and washings
What is the treatment for high risk histology?
Chemotherapy
