Q

Explain why the water content is so Important

A

Water makes regolith heavier. The more water in the substance the quicker it moves

Q

Explain why the human activity is so Important

A

People often cut into mountains or hills, which leaves a steeper slope, which means the movement will be faster.

Q

Explain why the vegetation is so Important

A

Roots of plants and trees bing the regolith together and slows down the speed of the regolith.

10
Q

Explain soil creep and name some effects it has.

A

It’s the downslope movement of soil under the influence of gravity. It causes telegraph poles to tilt and tree trunks grow at an angle. Walls bulge because of the soil building up behind it and terracettes are formed when the soil gathers to make a series of steps.

Q

What is a landslide

A

A land slide is the very rapid movement of Earth and rock down a steep slope and often occurs after heaven rainfall.

13
Q

Why do landslides occur

A

They occur when a slope becomes unstable. When a mountain/hill has been cut into for road building or quarrying the slope can become unstable.

Q

Explain a mudflow

A

These are moving Rivers of rock soil and water. They are the fastest forms of mass movement.

15
Q

What triggers mudflows

A

Heavy rain- when soil becomes saturated with water it turns into mud
Volcanic eruption- when a volcano erupts and it releases hot ash this melts the snow on the top of the mountain. When the water( melted snow) comes down the mountain it collects mud soil and rock= mudflow

16
Q

What are bogbursts and how do they start

A

They are a type of mudflow and they occur when heaven rainfall saturate peat

17
Q

What is a lahar

A

When a volcano erupts on a snow capped mountain hot mud water and debris move fast down the mountain slope

18
Q

Give an example of a lahar

A

Nevado del Ruiz- Columbia

19
Q

Give an example of a landslide

A

After mount St helens eruption 1980
