Marking Out Flashcards
Marking gauge
Uses a pin to scratch a line parallel to the edge of the wood
Cutting gauge
Uses a blade to cut through the top grain, marks the cut parallel to the edge but also stops the wood splitting when cut
Mortise gauge
Has two adjustable pins to make parallel marks to cut a mortise hole
Try square
Has a 90 degree face to mark a perpendicular line
Engineers square
Try square but made for metal so is made of metal
Mitre square
Like the try square but at 45 degrees
Odd leg caliper
Has a curved leg to hold under and scratch a mark parallel to the edge
Vernier caliper
Can measure inner outer and depth measurements and some have an electrical gauge to show more precise measurements
Micrometer
Ultra precise measurements because each turn of the handle moves the jaws close by 0.5mm
Jig
Holds work in place to improve efficiency of work
Go-no go gauge
To make sure a part is within tolerance
