- used for developing ideas and are often used because the design is very complex so is easier to make through editing
often made by pasting photos together

- sometimes ideas are hard to convey and visualise so you can make 3-D models to help represent the idea
eg. using card, foam or 3-D printing

- allows designers to more realistically represent their design
it encourages designers to think about every angle of their design

more realistic than oblique and is drawn with vertical lines and lines at 30 degrees

2-D front that lines are drawn off at 45 degrees

often used in interior design
- start with a 2-D front then bring lines back to the point

- start with a vertical line then draw from that to the vanishing points
