Mania
An alteration in mood that is expressed by feelings of elation, inflated self esteem, grandiosity, hyperactivity, agitation, and accelerated thinking and speaking.
Euphoria
Extremely Happy, silly, or giddy
Grandiosity
Believing that his or her abilities are better than every body elses (Unlike Rob who really does have better abilities than everybody else)
Pressured speech
Rapid speech that is loud, intrusive, and difficult to interupt
Bipolar Disorder
Charectorized by mood swings from profound depression to extreme euphoria with intervening periods of normalcy.
Hypomania
A distinct period of abnormaly and persistnty elevated expansive or irratable mood and abnormally and persistantly increased activity or energy lasting atleast four consecuative days and present most of the day nearly every day.
Labile
unstable, changing mood
Clang association
A pattern of speech in which the choice of words is governed by sounds. Clang associations often take the form of rhyming
Flight of ideas
A nearly continuous flow or accelerated speech with abrupt changes from topic to topic, usually based on understandable associations, distracting stimuli, or play on words.
lamotrigine (lamictal)
Anticonvulsant, phenyltriazine
Seizures, Bipolar disorder
- Take oral doses divided with or after meals to decrease adverse effects
- Do not discontinue abruptly because seizures may occur
- Look for skin rash, increased seizure activity
- Photosensitivity may occur
Intrusiveness
The act of aggressivly advancing oneself and your ideas without invitation or regard for the appropriateness
lithium (eskalith, lithonate)
Antimanic, antipsychotic, alkali metal ion salt
Bipolar disorders, prevention of bipolar manic-depressive psychosis
- Symptoms of minor toxicity and major toxicity
- Monitor urine specific gravity to determine lithium levels
- do not operate machinery until lithium levels stable
- Beneficial effects may take 1-3 weeks
- Products that interact with lithium (stable intake of salt and fluids)
divolproex sodium, valproic acid (depakote)
Anticonvulsant, vascular headache suppressant, carboxylic acid derivative
Seizures, manic episodes r/t bipolar disorder, migraine, ADHD, schizophrenia, mania
- Physical dependency may result from extended use
- Avoid driving
- Seizures may result if discontinue medication quickly
- Report visual disturbances, rash, diarrhea, abdominal pain, light colored stools, jaundice, protracted vomiting

- Projection
- Rationalization
- Denial
- Displacement
