what is a fetal shunt?
- bypasses the lungs in a baby still in utero
what are the two parts of a fetal shunt?
1) foramen ovale (in atrial septum) = fossa ovalis (after baby’s born)
2) ductus arteriosus (between the aorta and pulmonary trunk) = ligamentum arteriosum (after baby’s born)
where is the internal jugular vein?
under the SCM
where is the external jugular vein?
on the SCM
where is the cephalic vein?
back of hand - top of the arm
where is the median cubital vein?
in arm fold
where are the arteries in the thigh?
lateral side
where are the veins in the thigh?
medial side
where is the great saphenous vein?
ankle to the top of the leg
what is the anterior descending artery known for?
- called widow’s maker
- m/c place for fatal heart attacks
where does the coronary sinus drain to?
drains veinous blood to RA
where do the internal carotid artery and the vertebral artery go to?
into the brain
what is the middle cerebral artery the most common area for?
m/c for strokes
what do the cerebral arteries supply blood to?
supply most of the blood to the cerebrum
what are the five main arteries coming off the abdominal aorta?
1) celiac trunk
2) superior mesenteric artery
3) renal artery
4) gonadal artery
5) inferior mesenteric artery
