A

Notes:

    • Dose #2 may be given earlier if at least 4 wks since dose #1
    • Give a 2nd dose to all older children and teens with a history of only 1 dose

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

A

A) Previous anaphylaxis to this vaccine or to any of its components
B) Pregnancy or possibility of pregnancy within 4 weeks
C) Severe immunodeficiency (e.g. hematologic and solid tumors; receiving chemo; congenital immunodeficiency; long-term immunosuppressive therapy; or severely symptomatic HIV)

PRECAUTIONS:

A

A) Moderate or severe acute illness with or without fever
B) Receipt of blood, plasma, or immune globulin give in past 11 months
C) History of thrombocytopenia or thrombocytopenic purpura
D) if TB skin test (TST) is needed then give TST before or same day as MMR, or 4 weeks after MMR

ADVERSE REACTIONS:

A

The most common adverse reactions are fever, malaise, mild rash (5-21 days after the first vaccination), and swelling of glands in the cheeks or neck

Older women appear to be more at risk of joint pain, acute arthritis, and rarely chronic arthritis
