INDICATION:
Prevention of invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) in infants and children aged:
– ActHIB: 2 to 18 mo
– PedvaxHIB: 2 to 71 mo
– Hiberix: 15 mo to 4 yrs
Note: Hiberix is not approved for primary immunization
DOSE:
0.5 mL
OF DOSES:
3-4 doses
FREQUENCY:
ActHib (primary & booster):
– Give 4 doses total, spaced at age 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 12–15 month (booster dose)
PedvaxHIB (primary & booster):
– Give 3 doses total, spaced at age 2 months, 4 months, 12–15 months (booster dose)
Hiberix (booster only):
– Give 1 dose total, at 15 months ‐ 4 years of age (booster dose)
Notes:
- Dose #1 of Hib vaccine should not be given earlier than age 6 weeks
- Give final dose (booster dose) no earlier than age 12 months and a minimum of 8 weeks after the previous dose
- Hib vaccines are interchangeable; however, if different brands of Hib vaccines are administered for dose #1 and dose #2, a total of 3 doses is necessary to complete the primary series in infants.
- Any Hib vaccine may be used for the booster dose.
- Hib is not routinely given to children age 5 years and older.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
A) Previous anaphylaxis to this vaccine or to any of its components
B) Age younger than 6 weeks
PRECAUTIONS:
Moderate or severe acute illness with or without fever
ADVERSE REACTIONS:
Injection Site: pain, swelling, and erythema
Systemic: fever, drowsiness, and irritability
