What is the function of the lymphatic system?

A
  • picks up, circulates, and filters lymph and drains it into the blood (specifically at junction of R and L internal jugular vein and subclavian artery) and **back into the circulatory system **
  • protection: lymph nodes/ lymph organs and tissues have T and B cells, macrophages that inspect the lymph for foreign pathogens and can mount an immune response

Explain edema

A

too much fluid goes from blood vessels into the interstitial space leads to swelling and lymph nodes can’t keep up.
