Lower Muscles and Body Movements Flashcards
Paired muscle forming the outer layer of the lateral abdominal wall, striations point toward the x rated parts
External abdominal oblique
Paired muscle forming the middle layer of the lateral abdominal wall, compresses abdominal wall, rotates trunk, striations going upward
Internal abdominal oblique
Deepest muscle in abdominal wall, rotates trunk, striations go straight across stomach, hold in all your guts!
Transversus abdominis
Runs vertically on the anterior medial portion fot eh abdominal wall, allows lateral rotation of the vertebral column, makes up your six pack
Rectus abdominis
Vertical midline band of connective tissue within the abdominal wall, white line
Linea alba
Extends from the crest of the ilium to the pubic tubercle
Inguinal Ligament
Round muscle adjacent to iliacus, flexes hip and rotates femur laterally, flexes vertebral column, makes up part of the iliopsoas
Psoas major
Originates on the iliac crest, located deep and next to the kidneys, extends lumbar spine, superior to the iliacus
Quadratus lumborum
Composed of three muscle groups that run along the spine up your back
Erector spinae
Originates on spinous processes of upper lumbar and lower thoracic vertebrae, inserts on spinous processes of upper thoracic vertebrae, extends vertebral column, most medial of the erector spinae muscles
Spinalis
