Low Visibility Ops Flashcards
Below OM or equivalent position, what should you do if you get an EFIS display, flight instrument, Nav radio, radio altimeter or a comparator warning?
Immediate Go Around unless visual contact and decision has been made to land.
Prior to OM or equivalent position, what should you do if you get an EFIS display, flight instrument, Nav radio, radio altimeter or a comparator warning?
If the failure is identified and can be corrected satisfactorily, you can continue to CAT I minima.
Prior to 200’ radio, the aircraft deviates excessively from the ILS beam. What should you do?
Assess corrective capability of the autopilot and continue.
After passing 200’ radio, the aircraft deviates excessively from the ILS beam. What should you do?
Immediate Go Around unless visual contact and decision has been made to land.
On a dual channel autopilot approach, at what height does the ILS deviation alerting system become armed and self test?
1500’ (rad alt)
On a dual channel autopilot approach, what is the lowest height to engage the second autopilot?
800’
May you conduct an approach to CATIIIA minima if the RVR has been determined manually?
No, but you may conduct a Cat II or Cat I LTS approach
What should you do if you are conducting a dual autopilot approach and the autopilot is inadvertently disconnected below 800’
Continue to CAT I minima, but only if you have the required visibility.
What should you do if there is no FLARE ARM at 500 feet AAL?
Disengage autopilot, Continue to CAT I minima. If weather is below CAT I minima you must initiate a go around.
Inside OM or equivalent position; What should you do if there is a flashing red Autopilot disengage light and aural warning (on dual channel approach)?
Initiate immediate go around unless a manual approach can be continued to CAT I limits
Below 50’ or with RVR of 300m or less; What should you do if there is a flashing red Autopilot disengage light and aural warning (on dual channel approach)?
Provided visual reference is attained and can be maintained continue to land. If not, initiate immediate go around.
Inside OM or equivalent position; What should you do if there is a steady red Autopilot disengage warning (on dual channel approach)?
Disengage autopilot. If weather below CAT I minima, initiate go around.
During Go-Around: What should you do if there is a steady red Autopilot disengage warning (on dual channel approach)?
Disengage autopilot and execute manual level off or select higher altitude.
On approach what should you do if you see a flashing red autothrottle disengagement light?
Cancel warning and control thrust levers manually.
During autoland, what should you do if white FLARE arm does not change to green FLARE at 50’?
(PM calls “NO FLARE”)
Commander disengages autopilot, flares and lands manually.
During autoland, what should you do if green RETARD does not annunciate at 27’?
(PM calls “NO RETARD”)
Commander disengages autothrottle and manually retards thrust levers.
CAT II / III approach: What should you do if you have an engine failure at or below decision height, with visual contact?
Continue the approach provided it is the safest course of action.
CAT II / III approach: What should you do if you have an engine failure with no visual contact?
- When engine failure recognised: prepare for G/A
- Disconnect A/P, press TOGA.
- Apply G/A thrust on operating engine and apply sufficient rudder to counteract asymmetric thrust
- Rotate to G/A attitude and retract flaps to 15
- On positive climb, retract the landing gear
CAT I or better: What should you do if an engine fails on approach with flaps in the landing position?
- Immediately decide wether to continue or go around
- If approach is continued, continue with landing flaps
- If sufficient thrust is not available for landing flaps, retract the flaps to 15 and adjust the thrust as required
- Command speed should be set to 15 knots over previously set 30 or 40 Vref
If the commander becomes incapacitated on a CAT II / IIIA approach, may the first officer complete the autoland?
Yes, provided the aircraft status continues to permit an autoland.
CAT II/III: below 1000’ RA, what should you do if you lose either hydraulic system pressure?
Go around
If you have one inoperative engine generator but the APU generator is still operative may you fly a CATII / IIIA approach?
Yes, APU generator counts as electrical source.
Is the A/T system required for CATII / IIIA approaches?
No
When should the second A/P be armed?
After selecting APP mode.
During a normal approach with no failures, when should the AP be disengaged?
When the nose wheel touches down.
If reported and relevant, mid point and stop end RVR are controlling. What are the minimum values of mid point and stop end we may use?
Mid point: 125m
Stop end: 75m
