Loop Diuretics Flashcards
1
Q
What channels do loop diuretics specifically block?
A
The Na/K/Cl cotransporter found within the thick ascending loop.
Also causes venodilation decreasing right atrial pressure and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure.
By inhibiting these ion channels it pushed calcium and magnesium out as well.
2
Q
What are the two loop diuretics to know?
A
Furosemide and Ethacrynic acid.
3
Q
When should loop diuretics be used?
A
Acute pulmonary edema Congestive heart failure Hypertension Refractory edema Acute renal failure
4
Q
What are the major side effects of loop diuretics?
A
Hypokalemia and alkalosis.
