What is the suffix of the ACEi?
All of them have the word “Pril” in the name.
What is the MoA of ACEi?
These drugs inhibit the Angiotensin Convertig enzyme (ACE).
This decreases vasoconstriction, aldosterone production, and sodium/water retention.
Also leads to vasodilation by decreasing the breakdown of bradykinin and other vasoactive peptides.
What two problems are ACEi first line treatments for?
These are add on agents for HTN and Diabetes
What drug class are ACEi extremely synergistic with?
ACEi are synergistic with Diuretics!
What is a complete and utter contraindication to ACEi use?
Pregnancy
as well as in bilateral renal artery stenosis and those with a history of angioedema
How are most ACEi cleared from the body?
What are the two exceptions?
ACEi are cleared from the body by the kidney.
Fosinopril and Spirapril are both cleared equally by the liver and kidney.
