linear and angular motion Flashcards
what is linear motion?
the movement of a body in a straight or curved line where all parts move the same distance, in the same direction over the time.
caused by a direct force through CoM
what is momentum?
the amount of motion a body possesses, mass x velocity
what’s angular motion?
the movement of a body or part of a body in a circular path about an axis of rotation
what’s an eccentric force?
a force applied outside the centre of mass and will create angular motion
what are the three axis of rotation?
longitudinal
transverse
frontal
moment of inertia definition
the resistance of a body to change its state of angular motion or rotation
how to calculate moment of inertia
mass x (distance from axis of rotation)^2
whats angular velocity?
the rate at which a body spins/ rotates
what’s the relationship between angular velocity and moment of inertia?
they are inversely proportional
what’s the angular analogue of Newton’s first law of motion?
a rotating body will continue in its state of constant angular momentum until an external torque compels it to change its state of rotation
what movements occur in the transverse axis of rotation?
flexion, extension, plantar flexion, dorsiflexion
where does the transverse axis of rotation act?
left to right of body
what movements occur in the longitudinal axis of rotation?
medial rotation, lateral rotation, horizontal flexion, horizontal rotation
where does the longitudinal axis of rotation act?
head to toe of body
what movements can occur in the frontal axis of rotation?
adduction, abduction
