Limbic System Flashcards
What are the 4 main functions of the limbic system
Food- (ex memory of where food is)
Fear- amount ex
Fight
Fuck
Parahippocampal gyrus location/function
seen on inf surface of cerebral hemisphere
rolls on itself to form hippocampus
Where is the hippocampus found and its function
Seen on the floor of the lateral ventricle
Sig role in long term memories
Where is the uncus found and what does it create and do
Next to parahippocampal gyrus and hippocampus
Creates dentate gyrus elevations
involved in forming episodic mess
where is the fimbria located and what does it lead to the formation of
interposed bw hippocampus and dentate gyrus
Leads to formation of post column of fornix
function of the amygdaloid body
Plays important role in emotion behaviour, help regulate fear/anxiety
what is located in the septal area
Contain nuclei which are linked to regulating emotion
- receive afferent signal from many limbic structures
how do signals from cortex of uncus get to the septal area
continues to dentate gyrus follows along indusium griseum to septal area
what are the steps of the papez circuit
- Signals enter hippocampus
- signals travel thru fornix to maxillary boddies
- travel thru maxillary thalamic tract to ant thalamic nuc
- Projects to cingulum and entohinal cortex
- From there it rolls back to parahippocampal and hippocampus
what are hippocampla lesions associated w
Amnesia
If entorhinal cortex is destroyed what can it lead to
Destruction of sense of smell.
