Atrial supply of Spinal Cord Flashcards
What are the 2 systems that supply the spinal cord
Longitudinal amd transverse arterial system
where does the 4th part of the vertebral artery start
after it peirces the post antlanto-occipital membrane
what does the ant spinal artery arise from and what does it supply
arise from vertebral artery near medulla and descends along ant median fissure
-supplies ant 2/3 of spinal cord bilaterally
what do the penetrating branches of the ant spinal artery supply
- ventral horns bilat
- intermediate gray matter
- ant white commisure
- anterolat system
- lat corticospinal tracts
what does the post spinal artery arise from/ what does it supply
-directly from vertebral artery or PICA (which is a branch of vert aa)
Supplies- post 1/3 of spinal cord bilaterally
-post white column (cunateus, gracilis, dorsal tract of lisseur, lamina 1/2)
What does the arterial vasocorona arise from/ supply
bw ant spinal artery and post spinal art
Supplies sub plial part of white matter (part of transverse system)
What do ant and post radicular arteries supply
supply the root (both ventral and dorsal) of the spinal nerves
what does the adamkiewicz artery supply
arises from left post intercostal artery and feeds into ant spinal artery at lumbosacral enlargement
in about 15% of cases the lumbosacral enlargement will get input from this instead of adamkiewicz
Lateral sacral artery
where does venous drainage of spinal cord go to
internal vertebral venous plexus
What would an anterior spinal artery inclussion affect and functions lost
- Ventral horns- loss of voluntary motor control at lvl of obstruction (LMN flaccid paralysis)
- Lat corticospinal- loss of voluntary muscle control below lvl (UMN spastic paralysis)
- Anterolat- loss of bilateral pain, temp, crude touch
