Functional localization of Telencephalon Flashcards
How many layers of the cerebrum is there
6 layers
What layers are thicker in the heterotypic cerebral cortex (+ what are they called)
If 2+4 are thicker it will be called granular cortex (usually found in sensory localizations)
If 3+5 are thicker it will be called agranular cortex (usually found in motor regions)
Area 4 (primary motor area) - in, out, function
in- VLTN + premotor area
out- Corticospinal to lamina 7,8,9, corticobulbar to CNs
Function- Voluntary motor control of CL neck upper limb, trunk, LL, muscles of head
Area 6 (Premotor area)- in, out, function
In- Ventral ant + Ventral lat thalamic nuc
Out- Area 4
function- generates programs for motor routines
Area 8 (frontal eye field)- in, out, function
In- Visual cortex (calcaline cortex)
out- Corticomesenphalic axons to CN 3,4,6
Function- mvmt of eyes
Area 44/45 (brocas)- in, out, function
In- Wenickes area
out- corticobulbar to CN x
Function- involved in expressive speech
Area 9/10/11/12 (prefrontal cortex)- in, out, function
In- many areas
out- premotor/primary motor cortex
Function- high mental function (judgement/foresight)
Area 1/2/3 (primary somatosensory)- In, out, function
In- Ventral post lat and ventral post medial
Out- frontal lobe and lamina 2 via corticospinal/bulbar
Function- Skin sensation CL body
Area 5/7 function
Allows you to identity object you are touching without visual aid
Area 43 function
taste sensation projects here
Area 39/40 (extended wernickes area) function
understanding of written language (in dominant cortex)
Area 17 (primary visual area)- in, out, function
In- Lat geniculate body optic radiations
Out- frontal lobe
function- visual perception
Area 41/42(Primary auditory cortex)- in out, function
In- info from med geniculate body
out- wernickers area
Function- sounds perception
Area 22 (wernickers) function and out
out- to frontal lobe and brocas area
function- understanding spoken language
Area 18/19 (visual association cortex)- function
understanding what u are seeing
Area 28/34( ofactory cortex)- function
sense of smell
What does middle cerebral artery supply
lat surface of cerebrum except the rim
(brooks area, wernickes area, frontal eye field, premotor cortex, primary motor cortex, primary sensory cortex
What does the ant cerebral artery supply
surrounds corpus collosum
prefrontal cortex, primary motor, primary sensory
What does the post cerebral artery supply
Primary visual cortex
What does an Ant cerbral stroke affect
Loss of CL LL motor control
Loss of general sensation CL LL
What does an middle cerebral stroke affect
Loss of CL lower face tongue, UL, trunk
Loss of general sensation CL face, UL trunk
Perceptive aphasia
expressive aphasia
What does a post cerebral stroke affect
Memory loss, visual field defects
Prsopagnosia- unable to recognize faces
