Seizure prophylaxis in epilepsy
Status epilepticus increasingly levetiracetam is being the preferred option after inadequate response with benzos

A
SV2A is the target for levetiracetam it reduces propagation of seizure activity

What are the side effects of this drug?
A
Generally well tolerated
Drowsiness
weakness
dizziness
headache
mood disturbance
suicidal ideation and serious hypersensitivity rare

What are the warnings of this drug class?
A
Renal impairment- dose reduction for levetiracetam
Hepatic impairment- caution in brivaracetam
Clinical response should be monitored during pregnancy—plasma concentrations decrease during pregnancy (by up to 60% in the third trimester).
