Q

What are some WBC characteristics

A

Amoeboid movement: Move cytoplasm in the direction of movement
Diapedesis - Cell flattens and leaves vessels

Q

Neutrophil - % of Neutrophil in circulation, what type of WBC, and function

A

60%-70% of WBC in circulation
- MOST ABUNDANT
- Granulocyte -3 Lobated nuclei
- First responders to leave circulation, secrete enzymes (Lysosomes) that kill bacteria
- Numbers of Neutrophils increase during bacterial infections

Q

Eosinophil - % of Eosinophil in circulation, what type of WBC, and function

A

2%-4% of WBC in circulation
- RED Granulocyte/ Lobated nuclei - 2 lobes
- Eosinophils elevated during allergic and inflammatory reaction
- Eosinophils secrete anti-inflammatory chemicals: Anti-histamine

Q

Basophil - % of Basophil in circulation, what type of WBC, and function

A

0.5 - 1% Circulating WBC
- LEAST ABUNDANT
- Granulocyte/ Blue stain
- Numbers increased in allergic and inflammatory reaction
- Release inflammatory chemicals (Histamine, Heparin)

Q

Lymphocyte - % of Lymphocyte in circulation, what type of WBC, and function

A

20-25% of WBC in circulation
- Agranulocyte
- Found in lymphatic tissue
- Involved in antibody production, attacking abnormal and viral infections

Q

Monocytes - % of Monocytes in circulation, what type of WBC, and function

A

3-8% of WBC circulating
- Largest WBC - Agranuloctye
-Remain in circulation for 3 days, then become tissue macrophages
- Numbers increase during prolonged infection

Q

What is a platelet composed of and what is its function
