Network of vessels, lymhoid tissue and lymph
What are the 2 main functions of of lymphatic system
- Removal of intersitial fluid
- Immunological defense
What types of cells are distributed to help the immune system function
Lymphocytes (T and B cells), and other WBC (Neutrophils, macrophages)
How does Lymph move throughout the body
Lymph relies on pulsatile movements, skeletal muscle and upper body respiratory pump contractions
Name how lympathic vessels are subdivided
Lymphatic capillaries turn into lymphatic vessels, turn into lymphatic trunks then 2 lymphatic ducts
What are some characteristics of a Lymphatic cappilary
- Larger than blood caillaries
- Close ended vessesls
- Contain minivalves
- Composed of simple sqaumous
What are some characteristics of Collecting/ small lymphatic vessels
- Move lymph from capillaries towards nodes
- Move filtered lymph away from node
- Endothelium, thin smooth muslce and adventititia
Describe the characteristic of a lympatic trunk
- Composed of the gather of various collecting lypmphatic vessels
- Ex. Subclavian trunks
