Lesson 6: Reading Graphical Data Flashcards

1
Q

What are the three steps in graphical data?

A

1) get baseline data
2) get some treatment data
3) look for convincing evidence of a treatment effect

Q

What are the three rules in getting baseline data?

A

1) do not introduce the treatment if behavior is improving
2) if behavior is getting worse, then you should introduce the treatment
3) attempt to minimize “bounce” before introducing the treatment

Q

What are the four steps of visual analysis?

A

1) are the final 3 observations in the baseline and treatment conditions divided?
2) are the data in the baseline and treatment phases stable?
3) If behavior is divided but not stable, ask if the baseline and treatment data are trending in the same direction or toward one another. If behavior is divided and stable, skip this step.

if the arrow shows improvement

When neither the baseline nor treatment data are trending toward the data in the other condition (and the baseline and treatment data are divided), we conclude that the difference between conditions is convincing.

Basically compare the baseline’s stable thing to the treatment’s stable thing. If the treatment is going towards the baseline, it is not convincing. (with reversal check both baseline and reverse one to see if they point towards treatment, if even one does then it’s not convincing)
