Lesson 2 - Chapter 3: Video Flashcards
What is a container file also called?
a wrapper
Video clips are stored where as compressed tracks?
the sound/video tracks get wrapped up into a container file/wrapper as a single file
(stored in a box as a single file that contains 2+ other files in different formats)
You can tell an audio file’s format by its extension, is the same true for videos?
No, because video extensions describe the container the file is in
(also have no idea what codecs were used to compress the tracks)
For fast-moving video, what frame rate should you use?
ideally around 60 fps or higher
What are 3 of the standard video wrappers (container)?
- AVI (standard container for Windows)
- MOV (standard format for Apple QuickTime)
- MP4 (most common format, used for h.264 and h.265 [codecs] video)
How is the image size of a video measured?
measured in the number of pixels like a still image
(FHD video = 1920 x 1080)
Video resolution is normally described as?
the number of horizontal lines from top to bottom
FHD video 1920 x 1080 = 1080p
What is frame rate?
The pace that a series of still images are played back to create the illusion of video
What is bit rate for video?
as with sound, the number of bits recorded for each second
(higher, the better. higher the resolution, higher the bit rate should be)
For a FHD video, what’s the standard Bit Rate?
8 Mbps
What is bit depth in videos?
same as graphics and display modes, the number of bits used to describe the color of each pixel
In most OS displays, the usual bit depth for a video is how many bits per color channel?
8 bits per color channel
What do you use a video capture device for?
useful for transferring footage from analog format (VHS, old home camera) into digital format
