What are counters?
Counters = small words placed at the end of a number for counting specific things.
There are lots of counters, just learn them as you would vocab.
How to use Quantifiers (hint, I mean numbers connect to counters)
Noun + Number
- This structure is used with pretty much anything, EXCEPT length of time which can vary.
How to ask “how many of” something
Noun + いくつ + verb
教科書がいくつありますか。
How many textbooks do you have?
How to ask “how many of” something WHEN you want to attach a counter and ask specifically.
何 + counter
マイロさんは何冊本がありますか。
How many books does Milo have?
How to ask the length of time/ how much of X something takes.
どのくらい
日本語のクラスはどのくらいかかりますか。
How long does Japanese language class take?
What word is added after a quantifier to mean “about”.
ぐらい
SOAS大学は日本語の先生が十人ぐらいいます。
There are about ten Japanese language teachers as SOAS university.
What expression is used to indicate frequency?
Time period に ~回 verb
毎週に、大学にご回行きます。
Every week I go to university five times.
What word can be added after quantifiers/ nouns to mean there is “only/just” this amount.
だけ
自分で六か月だけ勉強しました。
I studied by myself for only six months.
