Leg Locks & transitions Flashcards

1
Q

Open guard to honey hole position

A

Standing in someone’s guard with both legs inside with one leg forward and one back back step with the back leg which will cause one leg to step on the outside of one of the legs, next kneel down on the leg on the outside and pull your opponent towards your and sit back, while you sit back slip your outside leg underneath both legs and lock your legs crossed together then move into to attack either ankle

Q

Open guard to double outside ashi garami

A

When in your opponents guard standing grab both their ankles and step with your front leg over the opponents leg the same side that your back leg is on sit back and then cross your leg on the inside underneath your leg on the outsides knee crease to more into double outside ashi gorami, its called this because both of your legs are on the outside of your opponents and its hard for your opponent to heel hook you be easy for you to attack your opponents heels

Q

Double outside ashi garami to heel hook

A

Once you’re in DOA whilst keeping their leg locked to your side with your arm twist your hips towards the inside of your opponents legs then take your elbow from the arm that’s trapping their leg and hide the toes and slide your arm over their heel and get a wrist watch grip behind their heel and grip with the other hand to finish just extend the hips forwards and look back and up

Q

Double outside ashi Garami to single leg x guard leg lock

A

When in DOA it makes it easy for your opponent to sit up and possibly mount you so to try and prevent this we move into single leg x guard by taking the leg on the outside and putting our heel on the opponents hip crease with our knee facing out then we take the leg on the inside foot and hook It under the far sides opponents leg and point the knee in the same direction as the other knee and lock the knee and heel together, next we grab the leg were attacking and lift it into our armpit and then loop our arm under the opponents Achilles whilst trapping the toes with our elbow and rest out hand on our chest which will trap their heel then we fall onto the elbow of the arm that’s trapped the heel and push the hips forwards and look up and back to finish

Q

Single leg x guard to reaping leg to leg lock

A

Because our opponent can escape for the single leg x guard fairly easily we aim to reap their leg, we do this by grabbing their free leg at the ankle then with our inside leg open the hip push their leg out slightly creating some space on the inside of their legs then we swing our leg on the outside and slide it between the opponents leg and under the far side leg then we lock it under our other leg from here we can get the same wrist watch grip and finish

Q

Reaping leg to honey hole leg lock

A

From the reaping leg position we lean back and lift the opponents leg to the other side of our body then we grab the other leg and attack that leg as we aren’t reaping that leg and its not illegal to attack it. We can attack this leg with a normal wrist watch heel hook or with a straight leg lock by letting the heel slip whilst implementing the straight leg lock for more leverage

Q

Reaping leg to 50/50 guard

A

From the leg reaping position with both of the oppoents legs on one side of our body we then take our outside leg and bring it back on the outside and take the inside leg and bring it on the outside as well and then cross over the legs the same as the DOA but here we both had a leg on the outside and one on the inside which means we have equal attacking opportunities

Q

Outside heel hook rotational transition to heel knee bar

A

When in the outside heel hook position whether it’s DOA or single leg x guard one of the most likely things that your opponent will do when you’re going for the heel hook is to spin their body the same way that you’re apply the pressure on their heel to stop the submission, this will cause your opponents back to be facing your and their leg and heel to spin which will make it very difficult for you to finish with outside heel hook but you can now move into the heel knee bar submission. For this submission we must keep a grip on the opponents heel and keep it by the same side as we had it for the outside heel hook and lock a figure four with out legs and keep it locked high on the opponents hips to make it harder for them to get their knee and leg out, next you can extend the hips to finish here. Again the opponent may spin another 180 degrees and end up back on their back and we can then grab a wrist watch grip on the heel and go for the inverted heel hook on the other side.

Q

Toe hold rotational transition to knee bar

A

When in a leg entanglement place the hand that’s on the floor over the opponents toes then feet your other hand under the opponents heel in a figure four and grab your other wrist like a kimora then twist and rev your hand to finish here. As is very similar to the outside heel hook, the opponent will spin their body to escape the toe hold and this time you will end up with the opponents leg in the middle of your body after they’ve spun so they’re facing the opposite way to you and the same as the heel knee bar you lock a figure four with your legs around your opponent tight to their hip to stop the knee and leg escaping and then take a similar grip on the opponents heel as you would an arm bar and then extend your hips to finish. Again the opponent may spin another 180 degrees and end up back on their back and we can then grab a wrist watch grip on the heel and go for the inverted heel hook on the other side.

Q

Conventional knee bar/lat knee bar off to the side inside rotational transition to inverted heel hook

A

when attacking a with a conventional knee bar I’m sitting on on my opponent facing away, I then grab one leg and lock my legs in the bum area around that leg I then fall off to the same side as the leg I’m attacking, at this point my opponent will look to spin to stop the attack and when they spin to the inside I get a grip on the leg with my same side arm and I roll the same way as my opponent and once I’ve rolled and I’m looking back up at the sky the opponents heel will be exposed, I can then get a wrist watch grip on the heel and move into the inverted heel submission.

Q

Conventional knee bar/ conventional lat knee bar off to the side outside rotational transition to outside heel hook:

A

when attacking a with a conventional knee bar I’m sitting on on my opponent facing away, I then grab one leg and lock my legs in the bum area around that leg I then fall off to the same side as the leg I’m attacking, at this point my opponent will look to spin to stop the attack, if I’m controlling the toes they may decide the only way they can spin is the outside and when they spin to the outside once they’ve completed the spin I move into the outside heel hook by getting a wristwatch grip on the heel and extending my hips to finish.

Q

Double trouble knee bar rotational transition to inverted heel hook

A

When attacking with a double trouble knee bar I’m sitting on my opponent the same as I would be if I was just attacking with a conventional knee back but instead of grabbing on leg I grab both legs and fall to one side, next I grab the leg on top and I wrap it behind my lat so I can move into a lat knee bar whilst also controlling the other leg with my other hand, if my opponent chooses to roll in this situation I can keep hold of both of the leg and roll with him to keep the submission. If I look a grip on the leg that I have ankle control on and my opponent then spins, I can then move into an inverted heel hook and the leg that I have tucked behind my arm next to my lat.

Q

DOA outside heel hook (spinning the leg) to possible conventional knee bar/ toe hold/ outside heel hook

A

When in the double outside ashi position if I’m attacking with the outside heel hook and the opponent manages to hide their heel which stops my attack I can then grab my opponents leg I’m attacking and twist my hips and body backside 180 degrees and end up sitting on my opponent the same way I would in a conventional knee bar and I can attack with many submission from with point like a knee bar or toe hold or just an outside heel hook again or I can continue spinning and attack the heel again from the opposite side.

Q

Achilles lock

A

An Achilles lock Is a very effective way to keep control of your opponents leg and a great way to transition into heel hooks if your opponent spins but you must roll with your opponent in an Achilles lock situation because if you don’t roll with your opponent when you have an Achilles lock on their Ankle it makes it very easy for your opponent to escape my spinning if you aren’t spinning with them, if you do spin with them your opponent with expose their heel at some point in the spin allowing you to then transition into a heel hook or a toe hold submission.

Q

Switching legs when attacking facing opponent

A

When moving into a leg attack if your opponent manages to kick out with their other leg and free their knee then we grab their other leg With both hand and grab and Achilles hold on the leg on either side of the body, the Achilles hold on the ankle will allow us to control to the leg better and transfer into other strong submission such as outside heel hook. next we can lock up our legs around the opponents leg and then we can move into various leg locking submissions.

Q

Switching legs when attacking opponent facing away

A

When attacking attacking your opponents leg if your opponent spins so their back is to you and manages to free their knee and place it on the floor we then sit up into a calf slicer situation and grab the opponents opposite heel with your inside arm and their far hip with your outside arm then you split your legs into a wide 90/90 position and pull in tight to your opponents far hip, next your swing the far side leg over your opponent and feed it in-between their legs and then roll causing your opponent to roll with your and leading you into further leg attacks.
If this sequence happens when your opponents leg is on the inside you may have to turn and twist your your knees are on the inside of your opponents leg before you move into the wide 90/90 split and move to the other leg.

17
Q

Hip to hip switching for leg submissions

A

When attacking the legs we have another option of switching which side the opponents legs are on our body this will allow us to move into other submissions depending on which side of our body their leg is on, so If the opponent is hiding his heel when we attack with the outside heel hook we can lift his leg over our body and attack with a inverted heel hook on the opposite side and we can continue switching until were able to finish the submission.

18
Q

Single leg x attack to back transition with opponent facing

A

When in the single leg x position and your attacking your opponent leg your opponent might sit up and start grabbing your arms and upper body so we grab their near arm and pull their elbow across our body and with our far arm we grab an underhook under their near armpit and on their tricep, I then lean into my opponent and grab their far lat muscle with my near side arm, next I rock back with my opponent and split my feet in the wide 90/90 position so that both my legs are completely off my opponent and I have a grip on his near side arm and far side lat muscle, if my opponent tries to turn into me I use my legs to hook his to make it difficult and then come up onto my knees and place one leg on the far side of his body and pull my opponent into me as I full back and put booth hooks into his hip and if he tries to turn away I can move in to take the back.

19
Q

Single leg x attack to back transition with opponent facing away

A

When in your single leg x position and you’re attacking your opponents leg if your opponents spins so they’re facing away from you and manage to free their knee to the floor we move into a knee slicer position ( we may have to twist our hips so that our knees are facing on the inside if we start off in a cross ashi position) and grab the heel of the opponents leg we were attacking, this will help is sit up and then we grab our opponents hip with our outside arm and then move into the wide 90/90 split and move the leg that’s cleared the body infront of the opponents thigh so that you’re kneeling either side of the opponents thigh with both legs, from here we grab a seatbelt grip on our opponent and then roll back with them falling onto us and we can then get both of our hooks in on the inside of our opponents hips

20
Q

Cross ashi garami to kimora opponent front facing

A

When in the cross ashi gorami position and youre attacking with the inverted heel hook and you’re opponent hides their heel you then move in and grab the free leg and place both feet together and roll forward onto your knees, from here I can roll forward and continue attacking the legs but if the opponent sits up and starts attacking with their arms then I can lean over my opponent and get my head above theirs I can feed my arm over their shoulder and under their arm and grab the wrist of my other hand that’s controlling the opponents wrist and move into a kimora grip, I then fall over my opponent whilst keeping the kimora grip, from here i take the arm that’s grabbing the opponents wrist and lift it over the opponents head then post up onto our elbow and knee and then fall onto our opponents body and pull back on the arm that’s fed under the opponent arm to finish.

21
Q

Spinning the leg to knee bar attack to kimora opponent rear facing

A

When in a DOA position if we can get the submission from this position we might decide to spin the leg and move into a possible knee bar submission by sitting on your opponent facing away from then, from here our opponent may try to grab a seatbelt grip on just grip across our waist area, in either of these positions we’re looking to grab the opponents wrist with the opposite side arm that they’re grabbing with and feeding under the opponents elbow with our free arm and locking a kimora grip with our other arm, from here if our opponent has a lock on one of our legs we use our free leg to push the trapped leg free and then twist to the side of the opponent and can move to finish the kimora from this position.

22
Q

Cross ashi garami leg attack to high elbow guillotine opponent front facing

A

When were in the cross ashi gorami position whilst attacking out opponents free leg we roll forward and fit up onto our knee whilst keeping hold of the opponents legs, if the opponent doesn’t engage our upper body then we can just continue through and attack the legs further with an inverted heel hook but if the opponent engages our upper body just like in the front facing Kimora transition we can control the arm attacking us by grabbing with the near side arm under their armpit and then grab over our opponents head with our arm closest to the legs and grab under their chin and link our arms, from here we slide our legs from our opponents legs so that were resting on our knees, I think take out my undercooking arm and lock a grip round my choking arms wrist and lift my elbow high and over my opponents shoulder, I then fall back and hook my leg over my opponents back and I pull my choking arms elbow down and into my body and pull my opponent chin towards my chest.

23
Q

Honey hole to leg lock

A

Once you’ve moved into the honey hole position grab hold of your opponents far leg under the achillies so his foot is tucked under your armpit and wrest your hand on your chest so his foot is trapped then look back and away and push hips forward to finish

24
Q

Honey hole to Texas clover

A

When in the honey hole position grab under the far leg and over the near leg and grab a gable grip with your hands then pull towards you and push with your hips to finish

25
Q

Honey hole to toe hold

A

When in honey hole position grab under the near leg with your arm closest to their feel and with your free arm grab the inside of the foot closest to you and wrap a figure four grip with your other arm and pull the toes towards their head to finish
