Closed Guard Flashcards
Triangle choke from closed guard:
When in closed guard grab both of the opponents wrists and push one of their hands into their chest and pull one towards you, as you do this at the same time raise your hip the same side as the hand you’ve pulled in towards you and raise that leg and place youre calf over the back of their neck, next grab your shin behind their neck with the hand on the opposite side and then shimmy back with your hips and pull them into you further with their neck and your leg then cross then place the other leg on the side of their neck and cross the leg behind their neck underneath the leg on the side of their neck and tuck your ankle underneath the knee then squeeze your knees in and pull back and down with their head
Arm bar from closed guard
When in closed we’re trying to at a minimum get the opponents arm that we’re attacking inside our hip, in our center or at best across our body, we’re also using our far side arm to get a grip behind our opponents head to control them from postering you, once we’ve pull our opponents arm to at least inside our house we twist our hips away from the opponent to allow us to throw our legs into a top lock behind the opponent and also causing the opponents elbow of the arm we’re attacking to be inside our hips next grab the under hook behind the opponents hamstring with your far side arm and hook your other arm over the opponents arm we’re attacking to get a grip for the armbar, next twist your hips and body so it’s perpendicular with the opponents body as if you were going for a triangle so that both your toes are pointing the same way and step your free leg over the opponents head so their arms in between both your legs, you can finish from here or sweep your opponent on their bad to go for the normal
Omaplata from closed guard
When your opponents in your closed guard with his arms posted out either side of you decide with arm you want to attack and grab just above the elbow on the arm with your same side arm, next with you leg on the same as the attacking side slide it up and over the opponents body and rest your leg in a right angle on the back of the neck/ upper back area making sure their wrist is tucked into your pocket area creating a bend in their arm the same as a kimora. Next pull your other knee through and rest it on the side of the opponents near side neck and joint your heel and knee together to make it harder for your opponent to escape. Next twist your body towards your opponent so the space between you is reduced then cross your leg on the opponents back under your other leg while still making sure the opponents hand is still in your pocket area. Next straighten your legs out and swing forward so you can sit up and your opponent falls forward. Next twist your legs so your knees are pointing towards your opponent and your feet are point away. To finish this submission sit up towards your opponents far shoulder.

Closed guard armbar variation:
When your opponents in your closed guard grab the outside of the tricep of the arm you want to attack with your opposite side arm then with your other arm grab the opponent neck to control their posture next uncross your legs and step the leg on the side your attacking on the opponents hip and push off the hip to angle round to the side of the opponent then bring the other leg back resting on the opponents back then step the leg on the hip over the opponents head and behind their neck then grab both hand on the arm and extend your hips to finish

Bottom closed guard triangle variation:
When in closed guard on bottom grab the opponents neck and opposite side wrist and pull them into you and place the same side foot on their hip, the opponent will pull back to posture up and as they do this push their wrist into their chest and lift the same side leg over their back and behind their neck and grab your ankle with the opposite side arm if you can’t get and angle on your opponent the shimmy your hips back pulling your opponent forward and breaking their posture the sit up and push down with your legs to Finish

Closed guard to straight arm lock
Feed your same side arm under the opponents armpit and over their shoulder and round the front of their shoulder and the lock up a gable grip with the other arm under their neck then crunch inwards to finish
Closed guard to arm bar from
Bottom
When in closed guard on the bottom grab your opponents elbow with your opposite arm and with your other arm grab a grip on the back of your opponents neck on the same side as the elbow you’re holding, next uncross your legs and put your foot on your opponents hip on the same side as the arm that your attacking as you pull down on the opponent head, next push off the opponents hip with your foot and angle away from the side you’re attacking and place your free leg over your opponents back as your push away your opponents head with the arm that was gripping their neck. Whilst keeping the grip on your opponents trapped arm step over your leg that was on your opponents hip over their head and place it on the back of their neck, next making sure your opponents thumb is facing towards the ceiling push down with the leg behind the opponents and extend your hips to finish.
Closed guard arm bar to triangle
When attacking your opponent with the arm bar if your opponent manages to pull their arm out and stop your from the submission we take the leg that is behind their neck and feed it under their head and then bring our ankle behind their head again and grab our ankle with the opposite side arm, by doing this we stop our opponent posturing up, from here with our free leg we place it on the opponents hip and push off and angle away towards our other legs knee and the we lock up our triangle, if we can’t finish we pull the opponents trapped arm to the other side of their head and then pull the head towards us and squeeze.
Closed guard triangle to omoplata
When we move into the triangle position and grab our ankle behind the opponents head we have the option to move into an omoplata from this position. From here we ankle ourselves away from the leg behind our opponents head and towards the arm were attacking, next we take the leg behind the opponents leg and place it on the floor while keeping the knee next to our opponents head and take our other leg and place the heel being our opponents neck then we twist toward our opponents side and slide the bottom leg our and lock it over our leg on top trapping the arm, we must make sure the arms wrist is tucked tight to the opponents side here or they might be able to escape and that we keep our arm that’s next to the opponents side gripping on the far side hip of the opponent to stop them from rolling. if the opponent is up on their knees it can be hard to finish from here so we shimmy ourselves away from our opponent and pull the towards us to make them fall flat so we can then sit up towards the opponents far shoulder to finish
Closed guard omoplata to toe hold
When in omoplata position instead of sitting up and moving in to finish the omoplata because we are near their legs we can move into leg attacks like the toe hold, from here we grab a grip over all the opponents toes from our arm that closest to the floor and we feed our other arm over and under the ankle like a Kimora and grip our other wrist, from here were twisting the foot so that the big toe is facing towards to opponents bum to finish.
Close guard omoplata toe hold to knee bar
When attacking with the toe hold from omoplata position we may decide to enter into the opponents leg for further attacking we can do this by taking our outside leg that locked with our other leg and feeding it over our opponents back and in-between their legs, from here we twist the opponents back towards us and roll them onto their back we then take the foot close to our ear and take a grip round the opponents heel and extend the hips to finish.
Closed guard to rubber guard
When in closed guard with your opponent on top and their hand on your stomach take both hands and windscreen wiper your opponents hands to the floor then angle your body and lift your leg behind the opponents back and behind their head then grab your ankle with the opposite side arm and your knee with your other arm or tuck your arm behind your leg and grab the opponents shoulder if you can making sure to pull your opponent towards your and keep your other leg tight on your opponents hip or tucked behind their back so they can’t step over it to escape
Closed guard rubber guard to gogoplata
Once you have your opponent in rubber guard take your hand that’s on your ankle and push the opponents away from your to create some space for your leg then feed your ankle from behind your opponents neck to infront of your opponents neck, next with your arm that was grabbing your knee grab your foot that’s under your opponent neck and then push your leg and straighen your arm to finish or grab both hands behind the opponents head and pull it towards you to finish
Closed guard gogoplata to omoplata
When in the gogoplata position instead on finishing the submission take the bottom leg out and twist towards your opponent then shimmy your body away from the opponent so your opponent flattens on their from then twist your legs so that both knees are pointing towards your opponent and sit up towards the opponents shoulder to finish
