Lee aim
To see if there is a difference between how Canadian and Chinese children judge lying, and truth, telling
Lee, participants
- Canadian children age, 7, 9, or 11 - 36 were 7, 40 were 9 and 32 11. 58 boys and 50 girls.
120 Chinese children, age 7, 9, or 11 - equal number of each age group and gender split
Lee procedure
Child was either told a
pro social truth, telling story
a pro social lie, telling story
A antisocial truth, telling story,
or an antisocial lie, telling story
Child was and asked if what the person in the story did was good or naughty and would respond to this question using a seven-point rating scale of very very good -neither-very very naughty
After the child rated what they did, the second half of the story would be read to them, whether character would either lie, or tell the truth, and the participants were asked the same question 
Lee results
Both cultures always so good deeds as good and bad deeds as bad whether a male or female
Chinese children, saw it less favourable to tell the truth about helping others and positive to lie about helping others as they got older
Canadian children voted it as less bad to lie in a pro social scenario as they got older
Canadian children always see lying as negative
Rating scale
Very very good, very good, good, neutral, bad, very bad, very very bad
Depicted as red star, blue circle, black cross
How did they reduce order effects?
Orders of the stories changed and order of good / naughty reversed
