Lecture19: Lumbar And Sacral Plexi Flashcards
The illioingual and iliihypogastric branches arise from which segment?
L1
What is the branch anterior to the psoas major muscle?
Genitofemoral nerve
What is the medial branch to the psoas major muscle?
Obturator nerve
What is the function of both iliohypogastric and ilioingual nerves?
Motor supply to the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall
What is the function of the genitofemoral nerve?
Sensory supply to external genitals and upper anterior thigh
What is the function of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh?
Sensory supply to lateral thigh
What is the function of the femoral nerve?
Supplies the muscles of the anterior thigh and it’s skin
What is the function of the obturator nerve?
Supplies the muscles of the medial thigh and it’s skin
What happens if femoral nerve injury?
Weakness in flexion of hip and knee extension
What happens if obturator nerve injury?
Weakness in Adduction of thigh
What is the origin of the sacral plexus?
S1-4 and L4-5
What is the course of the Lumbosacral trunk ( L4-5 )?
Vertically to the pelvic cavity
What is the course of S1-4?
Through the anterior sacral foramina
What is the muscle origin of the sacral plexus?
Piriformis muscle
What are the 2 terminal branches of the sacral plexus?
The sciatic nerve and pedundal nerve
What does the sciatic nerve supply?
Muscle of the feet, leg and posterior thigh
What is the main nerve of the perineum?
The pedundal nerve
What do both inferior and posterior gluteal nerves supply?
The gluteal muscles
What does the posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh supply?
Sensory supply to posterior thigh
What delivers parasympathetic supply to the pelvis?
Pelvic splanchic nerves
What delivers to the external anal sphincter?
Muscular branches
What is injured nerve if a person has drooping feet?
Sciatic nerve
