Intrinsic motivation
doing something because it’s inherently interesting and enjoyable
Extrinsic motivation
doing something because it leads to a seperable outcome.
Intrinsic motivation (Self Determination theory)
1-Competence: need to be effective in dealing with environment.
2-Autonomy: need to control the course of their lives
3-Relatedness: need to have a close, affectionate relatonship with others.
Vroom’s VIE theory
1-Valance: strength of person’s preference for particular outcome
2-Instrumentality: perceived relationship between performance and attaintment of a certain outcome.
3-Expectancy: perceived relationship between effort and performance.
Sceintist model: Dissonance theory
1-Suggests that tension exists when individuals hold incompatible thoughts.
2-Assumes individuals always seek some sense “balance” and will direct their behavior toward seeking and maintaning that balance.
Self-efficiacy
One’s capacity to perform a specific task or reach a specific goal.
Developed and increased by:
1-Mastery experiences
2- Modeling
3- social persuasion
4- Physiological states
How to measure motivation?
1-Motivational trait questionnaires (MTQ)

Research on Generational Differences
1- Research failed to find convincing evidence for the existence of distinct generations.
2- Focusing on generational differences can lead to prejudice, bias and stereotyping in the workplace
3- It is more likely due to age or other effects.
