What is an STI
An infection by a pathogen which is sexually transmissible and which is unlikely to be transmitted by non-sexual means

Disorder of structure or function caused by a sexually transmitted pathogen

Itch
Discharge-cottage cheese
What are the risk factors of Vulvovaginal Candidosis
Diabetes Oral steroids Immune suppressed Pregnancy Reproductive age group
What investigations are carried out for Thrush
Vaginal pH Gram stain Examination (fissuring, erythema with satellite lesions, characteristic discharge) Culture (Sabouraud's medium) PCR
How is thrush treated
Azole antifungals
Clotrimazole- 500mg PV once
Fluconazole- PO
What are the symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis
Asymptomatic
Watery grey/yellow fishy discharge
May be worse after period/sex
Sometimes sore/itch from dampness
How is BV diagnosed?
History, think homogenous discharge, gram stained smear of vaginal discharge, pH- very alkaline
How is BV treated
Antibiotics: Metronidazole (orally vaginal gel) Clindamycin (vaginal) Probiotics Vaginal acidification
What is Balanitis and Posthitis
Rash on end of penis
Common with foreskin
Blotchy, dry spots
What is Zoon’s Balanitis
Plasma cell balanitis
Chronic inflammation secondary to overgrowth of commensal organism plus foreskin malfunction
