-work with individuals with various mental/ physical health problems
- aim to improve their everyday functioning and wellbeing
- primarily work in NHS settings as a part of a multidisciplinary team
- also sometimes carry out research

A

Why is reflective practice an important skill for a psychologist?

A
  • the BPS say that psychologists need to be self aware and be able to appraise and reflect on their own practice
  • psychologists should be trying to develop insight that could inform future actions

What are Koshy et al (2017) steps of reflecting?

A
  1. the situation - think about what happened, order of events, own actions etc.
  2. emotional states - what were you feeling at the time
  3. make sense of the situation - why do you think things happened the way they did
  4. critical analysis - if you were to do it again what would you repeat and what would you do differently
  5. plans for changing practice - what will you do differently in the future and why
  6. put plans into practice and reflect again - when a comparable situation arises see if any of the changes worked better
