Role of HR?
- a department within an organisation that deals with employees and the issues they face
Responsibilities of HR?
- Recruitment
- Payroll
- Progression and promotion
- Employment policies (e.g., parental leave)
- Employee training
- Resolving disputes
- Staff working in HR in a smaller firm usually have responsibilities that span many of these areas, whereas those working in larger organisations are likely to specialise more
Salary of HR?
- starting = £18,000 to £23,000
- managers can earn around £35,000 to £55,000
Working hours?
- typical 37 hour week Monday - Friday

Role of an occupational psychologist?
- is a protected title = can only be used by practitioners who have completed a certified training route, which in this case is an accredited Masters in Occupational Psychology and Stage 2 of the British Psychological Society Qualification in Occupational Psychology
- is the study of people in the workplace, with respect to behaviours and attitudes
Responsibilities of an occupational psychologist?
- examining how people think and behave either individually or as a group
- using the findings and psychological theory to make improvements to the workplace
- developing and delivering training programs or reforming practices in order to address the satisfaction, motivation and productivity of the workforce, as well as their health and wellbeing
Salary of an occupational psychologist?
- around £20,000 to £29,000 per annum, depending on your experience
- can rise to up to £80,000
Working hours of an occupational psychologist?
9am-5pm mon-fri

What are some roles where an individual does not have the occupational psychology accreditation?
- business psychologist, work psychologist, and industrial / organisational psychologist
- individuals practicing under these titles will normally have completed certain qualifications such as a Masters in Industrial / Organisational psychology, or a PhD in the discipline
- these roles are about the application of psychological methods and knowledge in order to improve the effectiveness of workers and organisations
- key skills include: interpersonal skills, ability to listen and emphasise
