What is a career?
It is a specific occupation, profession or trade some of which require a lot of training or formal education whilst others do not
What is another definition of career?
All of the progress that someone has made in their working life, including different jobs, roles and accomplishments
Multiple unrelated jobs?
A pathway that includes various jobs that have no obvious connection between them e.g. being bar staff than a sales assistant
Advancing within 1 occupation?
A pathway that refers to multiple jobs within the same occupation, although this does not have to be within the same organisation e.g. working as a police constable, then sergeant and then inspector
Advancing in the same industry but not occupation?
A pathway where all the jobs are within the same industry e.g. going from a holiday rep to events organiser than assistant hotel manager

What is organisation/ self management?
the abilities that allow people to set goals, stay focused on different tasks, and use their resources such as time and mental capacity effectively and efficiently in order to achieve the desired outcome
What is problem solving?
the ability to work through potential options to find a solution to a difficulty
What are analytical skills?
the ability to draw conclusions from data, can involve assimilating and analysing data as well as thinking critically about what evidence means
What is creativity and innovation?
the ability to come up with new ideas and methods that others have not thought of
What are technical and digital skills?
they relate to your ability to use tools or technology as necessary to perform practical tasks
What is communication?
being able to convey information through spoken, written and visual means
What are people skills?
they relate to your interaction skills that enable you to relate to others on a personal and professional level
What is emotional intelligence?
the ability to monitor your own feelings and those of others and use this information to guide your actions
What is teamwork?
involves working collaboratively with a group of people to achieve a goal
