Lecture 8 Flashcards
Describe some features of K. pneumonia.
rod-shaped, non-flagellated, G-, facultative anaerobe, encapsulated, and is non-spore forming
What are the four major virulence factors of K. pneumonia?
capsule, lipopolysaccharide, fimbriae, and siderophores
What is proteomics?
the entire protein complement expressed by a genome
What is mass spectrometry-based proteomics?
used to identify proteins
What are the two methods of mass spectrometry based proteomics?
bottom-up proteomics - proteins are digested into peptides prior to analysis
top-down proteomics - looks at whole proteins
What is the protein preparation workflow?
extraction, digestion, purification, identification, and data analysis
What is nutritional immunity?
the host will sequester any free metal to restrict bacterial growth
