Lecture 5 Flashcards
What are the two types of innate response?
immediate and induced response
What complement do all 3 complement system lead to?
C3
Describe C3 fixation.
C3 is cleaved to create C3b which binds to bacterium and C3a which recruits phagocytosis
Describe the process of opsonization in C3B.
C3b binds to CR1 receptors on macrophage triggering endocytosis and destroying pathogens
What is the function of C5b?
to initiate the formation of the membrane attack complex
What are the main functions of anaphylatoxins?
to increase vascular permeability, to cause inflammation, and to speed up pathogen destruction
What is a mast cell?
activated by anaphylatoxins to degranulate, hold granules of inflammatory mediators
What is the rapid response of the immediate innate immune system due to?
complement circulation and macrophage availability
