Lecture 11 Flashcards
What is the chain of transmission?
infectious agent, reservoir, portal of exit, mode of transmission, portal of entry, and susceptible host
What are the three modes of transmission?
contact, droplet, and airborne
What are some examples of contact transmission?
skin to skin, fecal to oral, bloodborne
What is droplet transmission?
transmission through respiratory droplets
What is airborne transmission?
transmission through aerosolized droplet nuclei
What is the difference between droplet and airborne transmission?
airborne can travel farther and can stay in the air longer
What are aerosol generating medical procedures?
the artificially increase production of aerosol from infectious person
What is low level disinfection?
eliminates some bacteria, viruses, fungi; uses chemical agents
What is semi-critical medical equipment and list an example?
equipment that contacts non-intact skin but does not penetrate tissue; respirators
What requires bacteria special cleaning precautions?
C. difficile
