Lecture 7 And 8 8/30/18 Flashcards
What are the three types of major salivary glands?
Parotid Glands
Submandibular Glands
Sublingual glands
What is a parotid gland?
Composed of only serous acini Apical regions contain zymogen granules RER predominates in basal regions of secretory cells
What is a submandibular gland?
Mixed w/ both muscles and serous acini but serous is predominate For me crescent shape around mucous acini and are called serous demilunes Myoepithelial cells around acini
What is a sublingual glands?
Mixed glands but mucous acini are predominate Flatten nuclei at basal poles of cells Mucous acini (pale in appearance and PAS+)
When looking at diagrams, what are the differences b/w striated and intercalated ducts
Striated ducts are…… Simple Cuboidal to simple high Cuboidal Bigger than acini
What are ways to differentiate a interlobular duct from an intralobular duct?
Surrounded Connective tissue
How do connective tissue and epithelial tissue compare?
CT. Epithelial Low cellularity High cellularity abundant matrix Varying protein fibers Classified (matrix, density, organization)
What are the categories of connective tissue
Embryonic - Wharton jelly Adult - Elastic,Reticular, Loose, and Dense Special- adipose, cartilage, bone, Hematopoietic
What is the fibrous composition of adult CT?
Loose - Collagen & ELastic; Loosely arranged Dense - Collagen (includes regular and irregular forms) Reticular - reticular fibers Elastic - Elastic Fibers
What is embryonic tissue and where is it located?
Umbilical cord and pulp of developing teeth Called Wharton jelly in umbilical cord Composed of some collagen and elastic fibers and an abandons of ECM
What is loose (areolar) CT
*(Adult) *Fibroblasts > Fibrous components *Type 1 Collagen +elastic fibers Beneath Epi T of most organs Fibroblasts, mast cells, macro phases and capillaries
What is dense connective tissue?
Dense Fibrous components > Fibroblasts Regular Run parallel Thick organize bundles separated rows of fibroblasts tendons and ligaments Irregular Not organized parallel boundless Thick bundles of Collagen fascia, submucosa of GI
What is reticular CT
Dense irregular w/ reticular fibers Lymphatic T Show up brown or black in Sliver stain Does not work with H and E stain
What is elastic T?
Dense irregular w/ elastic fibers creating discounting lamellae Assoc blood vessels
What are the differences b/w white and brown fat
White Unilocular Brown Multilocular Abundant mitochondria =brown color More cytoplasm
