lecture 14 muscle Flashcards

1
Q

What ar ethe characteristics of skeletal muscle?

A
  • Multinucleated synctium
  • formed during embryonic development when hundreds of induvdual mononucleared myoblasts join end to end to form myotube
  • myotube matures into multinucleaed myocytes
  • peripheral nuclei
  • sarcomeric arrangement
  • fiber innvervated by single motor axon
  • contraction = all or none
  • Contains troponin C 50 ti 60 nanometers in Diameter

Q

What is a type 1 muscle fiber?

A

Intense staining for oxidative enzymes

Rich in NADH transferase , myoglobin, and they possess may mitochondria

Primarily unitlize oxidatiev phophorlaytion

Produce slow and continuous contractions

Dark red fibers

Q

What is a type 2A muscle fiber?

A

Intermediate staining for oxidative enzymes for oxidative enzymes

utilize both aerobic and anaerobic respiration for ATP production

Contract more rapidly than 1 type fibers

resistance to fatigue

Q

What is a Type 2B muscle fiber

A

light staining for oxidative enzymes

utilize primarily anaerobic respiration for ATP production

Rich in ATPase

Contract more rapidly than type 1 or type 2A fibers

Fatigure quickly reffered to as white or light fiber

Q

What are smooth muscles?

A
  • single mononucleated cels
  • no sarcomeric arrangement
  • cells innervated via ANS
    • Do not respond “ all or none”
  • Cells connect via gap junctions

Q

What is cardiac tissue?

A
  • SIngle mononucleated cells
  • centrally positioned nuclei
  • cells often branched
  • sarcomeric arrangement
  • cells communicate via gap junctions
    • Intercalated discs
  • Cells directly innervated
17

20
Q

What is the heirarchy of skeletal muscle

A

Muscle

many Fasicile

bundle myofibers

bundle myofibrils

linear array of sarcomeres

filaments

thin = acint ; thicc = myosin

21
Q

What surrounds hierchy of skeletal muscle?

A
  1. EPimysium covers muscle
  2. PERImysium covers fasicle (fibroblasts +type 1 collagen)
  3. Sarcolemma (cell membrane) covers myofiber ( muscle cell)
  4. ENDOmyosum covers myofiber too
  • Consists of basal lamina and reticular fibers
  • secreated via muscle cells
  • anchors fibers to ea other (distributes fore of contraction)
22
Q

What is the structure of a sarcomere

A

during contraction distance between z lines become shorter (decreased length in sarcomere)
