What is a team
a distinguishable set of two or more people who interact dynamically, interdependently and adaptively towards a common and valued goal/objective/mission. Each member has been assigned a specific role or function
What is a core team
formed to accomplish a specific goal
what is a contingency team
formed for emergent or specific events

What are the advantages of tall organisations

many levels of hierarchy
span of control is narrow
chain of command is long making communication slower

can be expensive due to high wages

few levels of hierarchy
lines of communication are short
staff working in flat management structure can be empowered to work independently

wide span of control means tasks mush be delegated
less promotion opportunities

ambiguity and confusion
team members may not want to work together
