Q

Capital Extension MMT

A

Position: prone with head off end of table. arms at sides
Test: Extends head by tilting chin upward. Patient looks at wall
Forearm swoops head downward. Other hand is under chin

Q

Cervical Extension MMT

A

Position: prone w/head off end of table. arms at sides
Test: Extends neck w/out tilting chin. Look at the floor, while pushing up on PT hand

Forearm pushes hand directly downwards, chin under hand

Q

Cervical Flexion MMT

A

Position: patient supine, patient tucks chin and lifts head.
Test: PT pushes forehead in rotational torque direction.

Cue for chin tuck

Q

Deep Neck Flexor Endurance Test

A

Patient is supine, hook lying.
Tuck chin maximally. Patient raises head at least 1 in off table. Hold as long as possible

Cue for chin tuck or head height. Test ends if they can’t maintain.

Q

Why do we test thoracolumbar spine?

A

foundation for force transference between upper and lower body

Poor core stability and endurance to be linked to increased rates of low back pain and extremity injury

13
Q

Trunk extension of lumbar spine MMT

A

Fingertips touch side of head, shoulders in external rotation.
Test: patient extends lumbar spine until entire trunk is raised from table. Clears belly button. Come up as high as they can from table.

PT: holds ankles or hips/across pelvis

14
Q

Trunk extension thoracic spine MMT

A

Pt scoots so that their nipple line is at the edge of the table. Hands touches head, elbows/shoulders are retracted.
PT holds ankles. Pt raises head, shoulders, and chest to table level. Be careful of lumbar extension

Q

Sorensen Lumbar Spine Extension Test

A

Pt hangs over the table, between belly button and ASIS. Lower extremities are held down to table by PT. Pt lifts head, chest, and trunk from table. Horizontal position at least.

16
Q

Sorensen Lumbar Spine standards

A

> 198 seconds, no LBP
<176 seconds, LBP
<58 seconds = 3x more likely to have LBP

17
Q

Trunk Flexion MMT

A

Pt flexes trunk through ROM, lifting trunk until scaps clear table. Hands are behind head. Neck doesn’t flex

Keep chin pointed to the ceiling. Grade 5 is when inferior angle of scaps are off the table

18
Q

Grade 4 Trunk Flexion MMT

A

Arms are crossed on the chest

19
Q

Grade 3 Trunk Flexion MMT

A

Arms are in full extension above plane of body

20
Q

Core endurance Tests

A

Prone plank
Side plank

21
Q

Prone plank scoring

A

120 seconds = Grade 5
90 seconds = Grade 4
Ability to do plank but can’t hold is a 3
Knee plank = Grade 2

22
Q

Side plank scoring

A

94 seconds males
72 seconds females

23
Q

Cueing prone plank

A

raise yourself onto forearm and toes. Keep body straight, suck belly button into your spine
