lecture 3: spinal chord anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
divisions of spinal chord
A
- cervical nerves (8): contain cervical enlargement where arm nerves meet
- thoracic nerves (12): correspond to ribs
- lumbar nerves (5): chord stops and spaghetti fibres begin, branching off from the lumabr vertebrae
- sacral nerves (5):
- coccygeal nerves (1):
- total 31 paired nerves
2
Q
filum terminale (externum and internum)
A
intenral is inside sub arachnoid space. the string as a whole anchors the spinal chord to prevent it from moving whent he rest of the body moves
3
Q
pseudo unipolar neuron purpose
A
- tell where positioning in space
- environmental change e.g temp, pressure
- myelianted with fast conduction at 50m/s
4
Q
encapsulated neuron ends in periphery
A
- meissner’s. corpuscle: touch
- paccinian corpuscle: pressure
5
Q
free ended peripheral nerves
A
- pain and temperature
- unmyelinated with slow conductio at 1m/s
