Lecture 14 Flashcards
Spatial Colinearity
perfect correlation between the order of genes and the anterior to posterior location of the gene expression in the embryo
Temporal Colinearity
genes at the 3’ end tend to be expressed earlier in development than genes at the 5’ end
Quantitative Colinearity
multiple hox genes are expressed in the same place gradients of expression also correspond with chromosomal location
Gene Expression
genes operate as switches, on off, or like a gradient
Nonfunctionlization
genes duplicate, mutations attack the duplicate leading it to not be functional
Redundancy
second is redundant, natural selection chooses both genes
Neofunctionalization
the duplicate could get new functions
Subfunctionalization
sub functions of those genes
