Lecture 13- Hypersensitivity Flashcards
Which antibodies are correlated with Type II sensitivity?
IgG and IgM
Which pathway is associated with Type II Hypersensitivity?
Classical Complement
What molecules are expressed on the surface of Blood type A RBC?
A antigen, anti-B antibodies
What molecules are expressed on the surface of AB type RBC
A and B antigens, no antibodies
What molecules are expressed on the surface of type O RBC
No antigens, anti-A and B antibodies
What will an incorrect blood transfusion result in?
rapid elimination of RBC
How is cell death initiated in incorrect blood transfusions?
Complement activation, ADCC, and phagocytosis
How does RBC destruction lead to illness?
Hemoglobin escape, blood clotting and vascular coagulation
How many cats are A type
75-95%
What is the most uncommon blood type in cats?
AB (1%)
What is special about type B cats
Most already have anti-A antibody, leading to instant death after A transfusion
How does an autoagglutination card work?
Agglutination will occur on the positive type
What is the gold-standard of blood typing?
Cross-matching recipient serum with donor blood
Four conditions for fetal hemolytic anemia to occur
- fetus inherited red cell antigen from sire
- mother is sensitized to red cell antigen
- mother’s response to antigen is boosted across many pregnancies
- Newborn ingests colostrum with high-titered antibodies against its RBC
How many blood types in horses?
Seven
