Lecture 12- Hypersensitivity Flashcards
What is a hypersensitivity
Undesirable pathologic lesions triggered by immune response
What causes Type I hypersenseitivities?
IgE responding to allergens
Cascade of Typpe I hypersensitivity inducing inflammation
Activation of Th2 –> production of IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 –> Production of IgE –> activation of mast cells and eosinophils –> inflammation
What are the effects of histamines, prostaglandins, and leukotrines?
Vasodilation, vascular leak, and Bronchial constriction
What is the most extreme form of immediate hypersensitivity?
Anaphylaxis
What are the chock organs of anaphylaxis in dogs?
Hepatic veins
Which ILs are involved in immediate hypersensitivity?
I-4, IL-5. and IL-13
How does IgE sensitize mast cells
By binding to FceR1
Which vaccines are most likely to elicit a reaction in dogs
Vaccines that contain fetal calf serum
What is given in allergen immunotherapy?
low doses of antigen
